We're reporting Cowdenbeath's Pothole Patrol complaints this week

If you haven't reported the potholes near you which are making your life a misery, then better hurry up - we'll be sending the list to the Council on Friday.

Pothole Patrol is your chance to get something done about the potholes which are making our roads a menace.

Councils can be responsible for damage caused by potholes which have been reported to them - so by compiling this public list of our complaints, we're making sure they know about them.

According to the AA: "A Highway Authority may be liable if they have not acted reasonably after noting a pothole (or other defect) or if they have been negligent in maintaining the road and / or keeping records."

We'll be putting the list together on Friday, March 11, so please add your potholes by noon that day. Describe exactly where the pothole is, roughly how big it is, and what kind of problem it's causing. Ideally also accompany your posting with a picture - one snapped on a mobile phone is perfect

Let us know if any have been fixed, too - we'll give credit where credit is due.

Please post your potholes on our original Pothole Patrol piece so that they're all kept in the one place.

For as long as i have been here in Natal Place 'over 7yrs now' there has been a large pothole on the corner by 'no13' as i turn left into the cul'de'sac beyond having to give it a wide birth

Excellent idea, and definately a sound way to force the Council to become responsible for these car killers.

The only problem I foresee is nearly EVERY street in Cowdenbeath has at least one of these things.

I once spoke to one of the guys that manages the repair of potholes and I put it to him, why do we use low-grade material to repair the potholes...why not use higher quality stuff that lasts 10x longer but takes the same time to lay.

His answer floored me.  He said that they use the cheap stuff as the "internal charges" from the council refuse department (i.e. taking the old stuff to the "coup) costs much less than if it were the good stuff.

In other words, we're having to put up with sub-standard repairs to our roads because of the way the departmental cross-charging works.

That to me is just ridiculous.  But unfortunately that's the way it is.

Just thought some of you might want to know why they use the low-grade stuff and not the good stuff.

Paul.
