Can I just ask why does it take a group of volunteers to maintain the baskets and planters etc in cowdenbeath?

I thought that was why we have a local council that employs staff in the recreation and parks and environment areas?

Great news for the council eh that you lot do their work for them.

Cowdenbeath Environmental Group Newsletter               ( July )        Well its going to be another busy month for the group.Beautiful Fife Town judging day looming fast. Friday 22nd July is our most important day of the year..As well as all our usual sites, millenium garden bridge st and cbeath community woodland we also did a community clean up " roond the moss " for a second time. Plans are also in place to do a community clean up from the Gleanor Garage on Broad st down to A. Ferguson Recovery Yard. From there on down to A Venters fitba park and heading on to Bridge St where the Pit Memorial stands.                                  Good news that the Planter has arrived at Cowdenbeath Primary School unfortunately it was too late to get it planted out before the school closed for the holdays. The school was also presented with additional bird boxes for next spring.                    Hope to see the new signage in place for Dalbeath Marsh. this is our local nature reserve which has an array of plant life and no shortage of wildlife, a must for the out door enthusiasts. Had a (keek) down at Rose bank allotments last week ,the school plot is coming along nicely !  Still waiting for funding for improvements to Woodland Project, hopefully next year  will see  progress.     Finally the group would just like to take this opportunity to thank Parks Department,Community Services and Environmental Services for all there help and advice over the last year. And especially to all the volunteers for there assistance over the same period  You know who you are. !

Cowdenbeath Environmental Group  Newsletter             (August)      Phew that was a  busy month !  Beautiful Fife town judging day has come and gone. Our judges on the day hailed from Low Valleyfield. We certainly had a lovely day for the visit as the sun shone throughout. The judges were very impressed by the array of colour when they arrived on high street. Huge pluses for the town were Cowdenbeath Community Woodland, Dalbeath Marsh, Millenium Garden and Rosebank Allotments. Unfortunately we were unable to visit all of the intended sites as the judges were already running late. The allotments up at Perth Road and Cowdenbeath Golf Club were two such places. The plots total five at the moment but increased interest could see the site expand. Hope to see some development over the coming months. It is now just a waiting game to see how the town has faired. Hopefully we can improve on last year,s silver award. There is a lot to be proud of in our town not just the tubs, hanging baskets and barrier rail baskets, but also the fact that a lot of people gave up spare time to assist the group when the were looking for some  assistance. Once again give yourselves a huge pat on the back.

Cowdenbeath Environmental Group  Newsletter          (October)    The group once again have had a busy couple of months.  Preparing for beautiful fife judging day kept us on our toes. Unfortunately we were unable to improve on last years award of silver which just makes us more determined to improve in 2012. Major plusses for the town were the very colourful display of barrier baskets , floral tubs, hanging baskets and the many flower beds throughout the town.In addition to these were how impressed the judges were of Cowdenbeath Community Woodland Dalbeath Marsh and also the allotment shared by St Brides PS and Cowdenbeath PS.Throughout the last year the group along with volunteers have helped to enhance many areas of Cowdenbeath.Unfortunately the high street being dug up for a considerable period has not gone down well with local residents and shopkeepers and with good reason . Hopefully they will get the job done and the high street can get back to some normallity.          The group would once again like to take this opportunity  to give a huge thanks to Community Services / Payback Scheme Environmental Services Parks Department Locality Manager and especially to all the volunteers who gave up their spare time to help out the group where and when required.    We would just like to mention that we are a very small group and we would be most grateful for any assistance  from anyone who might be inerested in helping out.   call   01383  515408          To finish off the group would just like to wish Brian Eggleston   well .Brian is in hospital at the moment  We all wish him a speedy recovery.   The photograph shows just some of the volunteers who mucked in up at the communty woodland.
